Why see a Clinical Sexologist/Psychosexual & Relationship Therapist?

You may have read recently about unregulated counsellors and the risk of more harm than good. I want to reassure you Psychosexual & Relationship Therapists are qualified counsellors, doctors or healthcare professionals who have completed specialist training (usually two years) in helping people with problems relating to sex & relationships. I like to say I am clinically trained but intuitively led. I have completed specialist therapy training in Clinical Sexology, registered with COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists), they uphold the high standards held within the profession. I also have obtained a Masters in Exercise Medicine in the field of Psychology, I am a qualified NLP (Neuro-linguistic) Practitioner and I have a love for holistic therapies.

As a therapist, my approach is pluralistic, deeply rooted in humanistic and person-centred values. I also have a deep passion for somatic therapy, which acknowledges that healing isn’t just about talking—it’s about reconnecting with the body. Where traditional talk therapy focuses on processing thoughts and emotions through conversation, somatic therapy integrates the body's wisdom, helping to release stored tension and trauma for deeper, lasting transformation.

What happens on an initial 1.1 Consultation?

It is understandable if you feel uncomfortable, anxious or nervous when talking to a new person about sensitive personal information. As a therapist through our training and part of our continued professional development we have therapy, I know what it is like to sit on the other side of the couch.

I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your why and why now. I will talk with you to gain a full picture of your current concerns and circumstances, and any related factors and history. The sessions are held in the strictest confidence.

After the initial consultation I will email you with a follow up outlining our conversation and how outline how the therapy journey may look.

What does the history taking entail?

You may be asked to complete one or more questionnaires to assess your situation. I will also explain how I work and establish some guidelines for our sessions together. Together we devise the plan that sits most comfortably with you. There will be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

How long are the sessions?

Initial Consultation - I offer a free initial 30-minute session via Zoom or telephone.  Following this I will follow up with a summary and if you decide to proceed we will agree the time and frequency of your sessions.

Online Therapy - Most commonly sessions are weekly, or every other week, initially 6-8 sessions.

In Person Sessions - I offer in person sessions (1 or 2 hours), these can be used as a stand alone or part of the online therapy journey.

Intensive Sessions - (3 hours) A powerful, immersive experience designed for clients ready to work deeply on a specific issue or theme.

Immersion Days - 5–6 hours (with breaks) + 4 weeks of ongoing support
A full-day therapeutic journey, offering the time and space to deeply immerse yourself in self-reflection and transformation. The day is structured with periods of exploration, integration, and rest, allowing you to process and shift in a way that shorter sessions can’t match.

Payment for sessions is required upon booking via bank transfer. If this payment is not received 72 hours prior to the session time, the time slot may be cancelled. Payment plans are available for Intensive Sessions, Immersion Days and Block Bookings, email for further details michelle@theyonitherapist.com

Where do the sessions take place?

In person - I hold clinic sessions covering the Norfolk/Suffolk area.

Online – The sessions are held via Zoom, you receive your own link and passcode. If you prefer to speak over the phone please note on your enquiry form.

How often will I need therapy?

The first 1-2 sessions will give us time to complete the history taking and assessment. As a guide I suggest starting with a minimum of 4-6 sessions. After this time we will review your initial reasons for therapy and decide the plan moving forward. You may have reached a place where therapy stops and you leave with a number of resources to support you moving forward. You may decide to continue sessions but less frequent as positive changes have been experienced. You could decide to explore something else or attend a workshop or immersion day.
