Frequently Asked Questions

Why see a Clinical Sexologist/Psychosexual & Relationship Therapist?

Many individuals and couples will see a therapist for a range of different psychosexual and relationship issues. Most individuals who seek therapy are generally successful people or those living life whom on the outside present with normal functioning but they maybe troubled by feelings, behaviours, thoughts or concerns that currently prevent them from feeling fulfilled in their lives or living to their full potential.

Life changes, new events or circumstances and changes in relationships or work often trigger difficulties that can be troubling. Alternatively, some people may have been struggling with difficult memories or behaviours over a long period of time and decide that it is time to get some help.

Psychosexual & Relationship Therapists are qualified counsellors, doctors or healthcare professionals who have completed specialist training (usually two years) in helping people with problems relating to sex & relationships. I like to say I am clinically trained but intuitively led. I have completed specialist therapy training in Clinical Sexology, registered with COSRT. I also hold a Masters in Exercise Medicine in the field of Psychology, I am a qualified NLP (Neuro-linguistic) Practitioner and I have obtained various holistic therapy certificates and diplomas. As a therapist, I am pluralistic in approach, deep rooted in humanistic and person centred values. To read more about how I work please click HERE

What should I expect?

It is understandable if you feel uncomfortable, anxious or nervous when talking to a new person about sensitive personal information. As a therapist through our training and part of our continued professional development we have therapy, I know what it is like to sit on the other side of the couch.

I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your why and why now. I will talk with you to gain a full picture of your current concerns and circumstances, and any related factors and history. You may be asked to complete one or more questionnaires to assess your situation. I will also explain how I work and establish some guidelines for our sessions together. Together we devise the plan that sits most comfortably with you. There will be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The sessions are held in the strictest confidence.

How long are the sessions?

Initial Consultation - I offer a free initial 30-minute session via Zoom or telephone.  Following this I will follow up with a summary and if you decide to proceed we will agree the time and frequency of your sessions.

Online Therapy - Most commonly sessions are weekly, or every other week, initially 4-6 sessions.

In Person Sessions - I offer in person sessions (2 hours), these can be used as a stand alone or part of the online therapy journey.

Immersion Days - You can choose to fully immense in therapy for 4 hours. The options can be explored on the initial session.

Payment for sessions is required upon booking via bank transfer. If this payment is not received 72 hours prior to the session time, the time slot may be cancelled. Payment plans are available for Immersion Days.

Where do the sessions take place?

In person - I hold clinic sessions covering the Norfolk/Suffolk area.

Online – The sessions are held via Zoom, you receive your own link and passcode. If you prefer to speak over the phone please note on your enquiry form.

How often will I need therapy?

The first 1-2 sessions will give us time to complete the history taking and assessment. As a guide I suggest starting with 4-6 sessions. After this time we will review your initial reasons for therapy and decide the plan moving forward. You may have reached a place where therapy stops and you leave with a number of resources to support you moving forward. You may decide to continue sessions but less frequent as positive changes have been experienced. You could decide to explore something else or attend a workshop or immersion day.
